Bathroom Remodel

In the new house, the bathroom could use some work. The shower walls are in need of replacement. Sean and I figured this could be something we could do down the road. But then I saw this article in Country Living magazine. They use corrugated metal as a shower backsplash. I love the idea. What do you think? Could our tiny bathroom pull it off? Is it one of those projects that looks easy in a magazine, but then becomes a nightmare? I don't know about the cutting of it to get the faucet through, etc. Any handy people out there with tips?

I totally think you could pull it off...not to mention it makes the white paint look amazing!! Then you can easily use the chrome/metal colored accessories throughout the whole room. I like how bright the room looks, this is important for smaller bathrooms.

That is just my two cents...I have no experience in remodeling, or corrugated metal for that matter...good luck.

oooh, that looks lovely. i especially like the chandelier. wondering if a chandelier would go in any of our bathrooms? little projects from magazines always are bigger projects that you would think. maybe 1 thing at a time?

For cutting in the plumbing, Sean needs to buy more tools. (your welcome, Sean) A good "unibit." This is a drill bit that has graduations on it so that you can cut whatever size hole you want. Just be sure that the depth of each graduation is deeper than the thickness of your steel. The alternative is buying a metal whole saw the exact size you want. Buy a small bottle of cutting oil so that you can apply it liberally during the cut. It's not hard, it just heats up a lot, so go slow. Then caulk is your friend. Go for it. I think the real trick will be fitting plumbing fittings against a surface that isn't flat. Some good old fashioned hammering might cure that though.
