Nana and Papa tapped their sugar maples this year and the whole family got together this past weekend for some good old fashioned sugaring.
Here is the crew heading into the woods to collect any new sap:
The boys were eager to peer into the buckets:
Finn wanted to help carry the collecting bucket:
Liam ran a head to check out the big trees:
Lots of buckets:
Drip, drip:
Beautiful old tree:
Boiling away:
It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.
Unfortunately, out of the blue, Finn fell ill with a high fever in the middle of the sugaring adventure so we headed home midday. We hear they got some good syrup at the end. We are going to head back for another round this weekend and hope to taste the goodness, thus this post is just "take 1."
