A stop in at the dollar store led to the purchase of these big bubble wands which led to a really fun afternoon of watching Finn and Josette twirl around the yard with these bubbles.

Apples and Pumpkins: Happy Autumn!
On the first day of Autumn, we headed to Butternut Farm for apples and pumpkins. The apple season is going quickly this year and we needed lots for all the wonderful apple things that we love: fresh eating, apple sauce, apple butter, and of course a little apple pie! And, the pumpkin patch was open and we couldn't resist getting some lovely pumpkins.

Glitter and Glue
A little glitter and glue makes a quick and fun project. Finn really got into the glue drawing, while Josette enjoyed shaking glitter everywhere. Win, Win!

Chicken News
The chickens are 18 weeks today! So, we are officially on egg watch as the books I have say they will start laying between 18 and 22 weeks. Some friends down the road got their first eggs at 20 weeks, 2 days. It will be exciting. And, it has been awhile since I talked chickens on the blog, so here is a little post of chicken news.
First, we are down to one rooster. A neighbor up the street had to get rid of his rooster and was in the market for another one. Since we had two and we didn't want to get the hens stressed with multiple males about, we gave up one. It was quite difficult to decide which had to go. While, we haven't really become attached to most of the hens, the roosters had a special personality. Sean and I loved Cogburn's beautiful feathers, but he was on the small side and while we didn't tell him, he had a very crooked tail! Remi is not as colorful, but he is bigger and struts a bit more and does have a perfect tail, truth be told. In the end, Finn decided for us. He didn't want to give up "Remi Timmi."
Also, chickens are, hmm, well chicken when it comes to kite flying. Here they are all worked up when we ran past them with a kite and Remi is in full crow:
In anticipation of the upcoming laying, the chickens have some nice new nesting boxes:
Finn was super excited to help Sean fill them with pine shavings and had to show his chickens exactly what was happening:
And, try to put them in, much to their dismay:
And, here is a picture of Sean holding Finn holding a chicken:

Microwave Puff Paint
Microwave Puff Paint - 1 tablespoon flour, 1 tablespoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, food coloring, 2 tablespoons water. Microwave art ~20 seconds to dry and puff paint. Works best on card board (or you may paint it all over your body, but don't microwave yourself!)

Bubbles and Kites
Yesterday was a gorgeous fall weather day. Brisk, but full of sunshine, we spent much of the day outside. It was a magical morning where Josette and Finn had a blast playing together (I don't have the heart to write a full sibling rivalry post, but we have it in full force). Bubbles and kites had them running around and giggling in the yard.
Lily Love
Lily is so loved in our house. Josette loves to shout her name over and over again in rapid succession while seeking her out ("YIYEE, YIYEE, YIYEEE"). Then, she loves to sit right next to her (or on top of her, if allowed) and give her lots of hugs and kisses (an tail pulls). Lily is truly the sweetest and most tolerant dog!
