Let's play...Guess that Vegetable! A friend of Sean's has been giving us the veg from his CSA that he doesn't want. In the latest bag, this beauty arrived. It looks like a cauliflower, but it is bright green and pointy all over. I don't know if it is just a fun variety of cauliflower or something altogether new. Finn wanted to dive right in and try it. Anyone have any guesses? recipes?

Halloween Party
My mom's group has a halloween costume party every year and it was Finn's first time to try out his "black kitty cat" costume that we sewed the night before. For the past month he has been determined his costume should be a kitty cat and he was thrilled with his tail, waving it around and trying to wag it. Very cute!
Painting cookies
This week has been filled with Halloween activities and treats. One day we made and decorated cookies and Finn has been asking to "paint cookies" again ever since.

Blocks
Finn has recently taken his block building to new heights, if you will. He is very proud of building towers "all by myself." He is also getting very creative in building roads and ramps and garages for his cars and trucks.

Another Sleep Post
The other night, Finn quite literally fell asleep mid-chew at the dinner table. He ate a piece of pizza (broccoli and sundried tomato, yum) and we noticed his eyes drooping and he wasn't responding to conversation. Next thing we know, he lays his head down and is out like a light. Like the good parents we are, my first inclination was to take some photos before getting him in his pjs amd to bed.

Finally, A Moose!
Despite living in CO for much of my life and spending two years in Northern Michigan, I have never seen a moose outside of the zoo. I was really excited moving to New England, think surely, I would come across some moose. Everyone I know has seen them. We went driving in ME last year where everyone said they run across moose all the time with no luck, yet everytime Sean goes alone to ME, he sees them. I have seen tracks all over on our walks in the woods here, but still, no moose! There was one in our neighbors back yard last winter, but we were away. I was beginning to think they were actively avoiding me. Then, this morning as I was driving back from the park with Finn and Josette, lo and behold, a beautiful young moose crossed the road right in front of us and then stood on the side of the road munching leaves. AWESOME! It was all the excitement I thought it would be. We stopped the car and watched him for awhile and he just stared back at us.
The Boys Go Fishing (Again)!
Sean and Finn are making a weekend habit of fishing. Last week, I mentioned to Sean that I was disappointed he hadn't gotten any pictures of the boat that he and Finn had built. Well, this week, he took these. Finn loves his boat! He was also excited that they got several large blue gill, or as Finn calls them, "monster fish." But, alas, it was too windy for Sean to photograph and keep the canoe straight. Maybe next week :)

The Boys go Fishing
Sean and Finn have been doing some fishing on the weekends lately. They take the canoe to a local pond and see what they can catch. Finn enjoys this a great deal, but he does like extra activities in addition to the fishing. The first trip he was content to play with the worms in the canoe. For the second trip, he and Sean built a toy boat for Finn to float in the water while they were paddling around in the canoe.
Here he and Sean are painting the boat:

Multiple Mohawks
We have been trying to integrate Josette into Finn's nighttime routine a bit more and that means shared bath time. Finn thinks this is great. We had to capture the double mohawks during their shampoo. As I recall, Finn has a very similar mohawk picture when he was Josette's age. It is funny how both kids were graced with the really long tuft of hair on top of their heads as babies.

5 Months Old
Sweet Josette is 5 months old today! She is doing great. Lots of smiles, laughs and giggles. Rolling back to front and front to back. She is aquiring lots of nicknames. Lately, she has been dubbed, Josie Bean. I was singing a song one day and tried to rhyme with Josephine and "Josie Bean" stuck. Finn is really into nicknames. He likes to call her "cutie pie," then at one point that turned into "cutie cute", which then evolved into "cutie q" and then made it full circle to "Josie Q." And we have all variations of sweet pea. Call her what you like, she is darn adorable :)

Fair Fun
Although the Autumn Equinox was a few days back, in our little town, it isn't Fall until The Fair! We had a lovely morning taking in the fair. As always, Finn's favorite part was feeding and petting the animals. In fact, he wants to meet and touch every animal, including the large oxen and horses.
And, its not a fair unless there is some yummy food. We opted for some jumbo donuts while watching the horse show.
Josette enjoyed watching everything and wanted a jumbo donut for herself.
And, here are the requisite pictures infront of the giant pumpkins!
