I Love Caviar!
So, Sean has been in NY for 15 days and returns tomorrow! Yippee. We have been very excited, but Sean had warned me that he may not be home for long. Well, we got fantastic news today...they found a sturgeon egg! This is HUGE! It means that they don't have to do another 3 week egg sample thus Sean won't have to be gone for such a long time again for awhile! He may have to go back next week for a few days, but no more of this 2 week business. I have never been so excited for caviar in my life. Way to go sturgeon.
Finn and I went to a Baby Steps seminar today. It was fun. The topic was baby yoga. Finn enjoyed some moves, but he is really not into relaxing. He wants to move and do stuff! All.The.Time! I actually had bought a baby yoga dvd a while back, but we didn't do it too much because Finn was never into it. I swore they must drug the babies on the program! Some of the babies at the seminar were pretty laid back about it though. Finn had the most fun when we were doing swings and squats with him or when he was laying down and I was doing downward dog and he could grab at my hair. The best part was when the teacher was asking us to close our eyes and center ourselves. Ha! Finn was climbing all over me and demanding attention. It made me laugh a lot so all in all a good time. We then went grocery shopping which Finn loves. He particularly loves produce. I can show him all sorts of things and he finds them quite funny. Cabbage and pineapples are always good for a laugh. His sense of humor is quite refined.
We are bracing ourselves for a 90 degree day tomorrow. I am not sure how we are all going to stay cool. Poor Lily is struggling with the heat. I have always loved cuddling with Finn, but it is not too enjoyable when we are sweating all over each other. I don't know how people have newborns in the summer. Luckily by Wednesday we are supposed to be back to proper cool spring weather.

Picnics and Races
We have had a really lovely weekend in NH. It is spring break for the schools in the area so everyone had some time off. On Friday we met up in Portsmouth for a picnic. Finn got to check out his first beach. Really it was just a little section in the park, but a great place to hang out. He seemed very interested in everything. Here is uncle Jon showing him the intricacies of skipping stones on the water:

All the kiddos had a good time:

Finn had fun playing in the sand with his feet:
We had a beautiful lunch. The day was sunny, but there was a chilly breeze coming off the water:

Finn was tuckered out by the afternoon:

We headed back to Northwood and Finn had a good hike through the woods in the backpack. He is enjoying it more and loves to watch the dogs frolic:
Lily is thrilled it is swimming season again. Throw the stick, throw the stick:

Today we all met up at the seacoast again for the "Whale of a Race Trail 5K" to benefit the Seacoast Science Center.
Libby and Liam joined in the kids' fun run:

The race was BEAUTIFUL and I am so glad I did it. At one point the trail went onto the beach and though running in the sand was tough, the view was great. I will definitely look forward to doing it again next year. And hopefully next year I will be more prepared. With Sean gone, I have not trained at all and to top it off Finn and I are a bit under the weather and he had gone on a full sleeping strike last night. I am exhausted. I couldn't find the official race results online yet, but my watch says I did it in 31:06. No progress since the last race which is disappointing. I am rearing to get back in the game and see some improvement.
It got up to 87 degrees today. It feels like we jumped to July. It was really nice to soak up some rays although my face is a little pink and I need to remember we are getting into sunscreen season. It is strange too trying to figure out what to dress Finn in. I am so used to worrying whether he is too cold, now I have to worry he is too warm and also worry about sun exposure.
Well, I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

TGIF!
Yes, Thank Goodness It's Friday. I feel a little pathetic, but I am counting down the days until Sean gets home like I never have before. I spoke with him last night and he is doing the same. The field work has been long and tough.
Finn and I have been keeping busy to pass the time. We have been bombarding everyone with our presence. We went over to Aunt Carrie's on Tuesday and Finn had a great time. She had an exersaucer that he got to try out. He felt like a really big boy standing up:

He also got some reading in. Libby expanded his horizons with Barbie in Swan Lake:

In just the last couple of days, Finn has improved by leaps and bounds in his sitting up unassisted:

We are off to picnic in Portsmouth today. We are in for a beautiful, record-breaking weekend at 80+ degrees. It almost seems unnatural for April, but I am embracing it.

Hodge Podge
I haven't posted in awhile as things have been quite hectic. I have had several ideas for blog topics, but they have all become a mush of random thoughts in my brain so the following post is a hodge podge of what I can extract after a long day.
Finn has gotten big enough that we have pulled out our backpack. Lots of trekking in the little guys future! He seems to like it, but doesn't tolerate it for too long yet. It is really fun to have a new way to get around with Finn and Lily.

Sean is out of town doing fishy business. We thought it was supposed to be just a couple of days, but then the weather warmed up and field work intensified so they can catch the fish spawning. Thus I am a single parent for awhile. We are doing pretty well. Some days are long. I am trying to make sure I have something specific to do everyday to keep busy and break up the time a bit, but inevitably I run out of ideas on how to play with and entertain Finn. He is at a tough stage right now. He wants to move, but is not able to and I think this frustrates him. He wants to be independent in some ways, but really needs me to be right there with him. So he is upset if I am holding him, but then upset if I try to put him down. He doesn't want to be laying down, but sitting tall or even better standing.
He is also becoming increasingly interested in everything other than his toys. The telephone and remotes are very interesting items.

He is beginning to sit unassisted pretty well. He doesn't last long, but he is not falling right away and I have seen him correct himself a couple of times.
Finn got his first haircut. It was not the hype that a first haircut should be and I am not really counting it. I am sure you all have been wondering when we were going to do it and get the hair out of the poor kid's eyes. We have been talking about doing it a lot and when Sean was getting ready to leave early last Tuesday morning I lamented that I had wanted to cut Finn's hair before he left. So, next thing I know Sean has some scissors, we pull his hair away from his eyes and snip. Low and behold a terribly uneven haircut! Yes, we are good parents. At least he can see!

I went to a new mom's group today. It was nice. I feel a little strange at these things though. On the one hand I am happy to be out and meet people. I love the idea of moms sharing their trials and tribulations. I really want to make friends in the area. On the other hand, I am quite nervous. I am scared everyone is looking at me and realizing I haven't the first clue what I am doing, or worse yet judging how I am with Finn and thinking, gee she is a terrible mum. It was particularly bad today because Finn was the oldest baby in the bunch and one mom with a 6 week old was asking about sleep. Well the facilitator turned to me and asked how we were doing. So, I had to stutter about how we are the poorest example of sleep. Another mom made a comment that it is our job to teach our children to sleep well. I know she meant it to be helpful in the sense that babies don't know how to sleep on their own, but I took it personally. It is just my own insecurity in thinking I have done something wrong to this point and that is why Finn is such a terrible sleeper. Then, Finn is so active and I am trying to keep him entertained while everyone is chatting and he would go in and out of fussiness and I kept worrying that people were thinking I couldn't soothe my baby. Or maybe I shouldn't be putting him through that if he was fussy. I suspect it is all in my head (or hope it is) and I need to just get over it and keep trying (which I will), but I can't help but think all these things.
I thought I had lost all my underwear and nursing bras. I noticed at the beginning of the week I was getting low on these items so I did a load of laundry, but when I was folding found no underwear. I couldn't figure it out. I thought maybe Sean had done laundry and maybe put things away in his dresser and they were in the midst of his stuff. So I looked through it all and found nothing. I thought I was losing my mind and I was seriously wondering what I was going to do with out these necessities. Luckily, I found them tonight. Turns out my mom had put some laundry away while she was here and it just wasn't in the spot I usually put it. Yippee for undies!
Confession: I haven't been running since Sean left and I have eaten a ridiculous amount of Easter candy. I was reminded tonight that there is a race this coming weekend. Yikes!
Alas, it is getting late and I am beginning to babble so I will wrap this up. Happy Friday!

Easter Weekend
We had a really nice Easter weekend and we were seriously sad to see Bubbles go. We went to a nice mexican dinner on Saturday with her.

The restaurant is in an old jail so the tables are set in old cells. Makes for a cozy dinner:

On Easter morning, Finn and I were excited to see the bunny had paid us a visit. He had run out of baskets to collect our loot so we used an Easter helmut:

We had a beautiful Easter breakfast at Nana and Papa's. Here are all the NH cousins:

Finn got some summer shades and is feeling really cool:

He also got some reading in:

Bubbles flew out Easter afternoon and I am going through serious withdrawal. It was fantastic to have her here. We miss you!

Sittin' at the Table
We got Finn his high chair this week and he has been able to sit and play at our level as we dine. It is great. He tends to be pretty happy to hang out with us. He is only good for about 15 minutes, but that is about his max for any activity. We got him a sippy cup and some spoons that he can play with too to begin to get him used to the items before we introduce food.

Bubbles keeps him entertained during breakfast:

Getting the hang of putting things into his mouth at the table (okay, he puts everything in his mouth anywhere, anytime):

Feet remain one of the favorites to go in his mouth. The camera caught him off guard here, what a face!?!

A big new skill this week: Finn is pushing all the way up on his arms. He is also getting his legs underneath him. These aren't occurring at the same time, but that will come and we will have a crawling little man!

Sometimes the pushing up on his hands leads to a roll over:

Way to go, Finn!

Welcome Bubbles!
Our little Finnbar is 5 months old!

And we were very excited to have his Bubbles in town to celebrate! Another person to sleep on:
He is definitely looking like a handsome little devil as he gets older:
And Bubbles plays fun games like airplane:
We have been putting Bubbles through NH bootcamp by going on lots of walks in the Moby and stroller. I fear he may be getting a little big for the Moby:

Lily tempting Bubbles with her funky chicken. She doesn't understand why we can't play when Finn is in bed.

It is nice to have someone take family photos of us. A little reading before bed. Books are just as tasty as they are full of words:

We took a drive out to the seacoast and walked around Portsmouth. It was a cold and windy day, but Finn was a trooper.

We celebrated Uncle Jonny's birthday at Warren's lobster pound. Home of the seacoast's finest salad bar. Yummy! Finn and Annalise had a good time visiting:

I am sure we will be taking lots of photos while Bubbles is here this week so stay tuned.
