We are lucky enough to have a good population of snakes living in our crawl space and basement. We see a lot of garter snakes in the yard and the other day we opened our basement to find this beauty about to go sun himself:
Its a milk snake. I am happy for the snakes as it keeps the rodent population in check. I am not a fan of mice as they try to get in the house. Plus they are pretty cool. New England doesn't really have any venomous snakes. I think there is a timber rattler, but they are pretty rare. I would be much more concerned in CO with the prevalence of rattlers!
